The Board accredits facilities, which meet its standards in order to give assurance that such facilities will provide the highest quality of patient care and services.

The Board accredits facilities, which meet its standards in order to give assurance that such facilities will provide the highest quality of patient care and services. To give public recognition to Orthotic and/or Prosthetic facilities that maintain the highest standards of professional competency and service, as verified by their display of this Board's certificate and listing in its official annual REGISTRY. To ascertain that the physical environment and working conditions meet acceptable standards by minimizing health and safety hazards.

Basic Requirements For Facility Accreditation

The Board awards national accreditation to facilities that:

  1. Maintain the minimum number of full-time board certified practitioners and technical staff to provided safe and timely professional Orthotic and/or Prosthetic medically prescribed care that will best meet the patient's needs.
  2. Have established / developed a reputation for quality care and service within the facilities medical and professional community.
  3. Maintain complete and accurate patient files that adhere to the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and Regulations.
  4. Meet the Board's minimum requirements as to the facilities lay-out, appearance, and required equipment and safety standards. Evidence must be shown that the facility complies with all local health, safety, building and fire regulations.
  5. Maintaining their accreditation by the Board by maintaining annual dues and completing an annual patient satisfaction survey.

Facility accreditation must be renewed every five years where a year is defined as a 12 month period from the first day of May 1st and ending on the last day of April. A complete application must be submitted for facility re-accreditation.

Failure to maintain these requirements may result in suspension of facility accreditation by the Board.
