The certified prosthetist and/or orthotist is obligated to support and conform to professional responsibilities which promote and assure the overall welfare of the patient and the integrity of the profession.

Member in Good Standing: To maintain membership in good standing, the member must meet all mandatory continuing education requirements, pay all professional fees and assessments when due and comply with all rules and regulations as set out in the registry as may be amended from time to time at the discretion of the board of directors.

Orthotic and Prosthetic Profession: The term "orthotic and prosthetic profession" includes those persons, firms, corporations or other entities engaged in providing orthotic and/or prosthetic patient care to individuals with disabling neuromuscular and/or musculo-skeletal disorders of the upper limbs, lower limbs (including feet), spine, torso and head.

Certified Orthotist: A "Certified orthotist" is a clinical healthcare professional that provides patient care to individuals with disabling conditions of the neuromuscular-skeletal structures of the body by designing, fabricating, aligning, adapation and evaluation of the orthopedic devices known as "orthoses".

Certified Prosthetist: A "Certified Prosthetist" is a clinical healthcare professional that provides patient care to individuals with partial or total absence of a limb by diagnostic evaluation of the patient, designing, fabricating, aligning, adapation and evaluation of those artificial limbs known as "prostheses".

Registered Orthotic Technician: A "registered orthotic technician" provides technical expertise in the design and fabrication of " orthoses" and their components in such a manner as to provide maximum adaptation, function, cosmesis and workmanship.

Registered Prosthetic Technician: A "registered prosthetic technician" provides technical provides technical expertise in the design and fabrication of "prostheses" and their components in such a manner to provide maximum adaptation, function, cosmesis and workmanship.

Registered Orthotic-Prosthetic Technician: A "registered orthotic-prosthetic technician's" responsibilities and functions conform to those of both the "registered orthotic and registered prosthetic technician" as defined in the two preceding sections.

Resident – a resident is a clinical school graduate or the accepted equivalent (i.e. foreign trained individual) who is receiving skill-based training in either orthotics or prosthetics in a public or private clinic and has been accepted and entered into the residency program.

 

Residency: A stage of postgraduate training in a public or private clinic in the specialty of orthotics or prosthetics.

 

Clinic: A public or private facility in which Orthotic and/or prosthetic treatment is administered.
