The War Amps of Canada

www.waramps.ca A philosophy of "amputees helping amputees" has been the hallmark of The War Amps from 1918, when the organization was founded, until the present. When amputee ex-servicemen returning from action in the First World War set up The War Amps (under the name The Amputations Association of The Great War), they envisioned a fraternal society that would be able to provide direction for their members while also seeing to their needs. Counselling, self-help, and practical assistance - along with appreciation of the history of this country - are common threads that have been retained more than 85 years later in the modern day organization that developed from their efforts.

CHAMPS Program

www.waramps.ca/champ The CHAMP Program offers comprehensive services for the families of child amputees CHAMP is built on the Winner's Circle philosophy which encourages child amputees to accept their amputations and develop a positive approach to challenges.

Canadian Paraplegic Association

Their efforts resulted in improved medical and rehabilitation services, better pensions and, perhaps most importantly, increased awareness in the medical community and throughout society of their abilities and potential.
