CBCPO has long recognized the need for effective continuing professional education. Continuing education, which is the norm in the health care profession, is meant to maintain and improve the healthcare system and delivery of services. RequirementAll certifications expire every five years after their date of issue and will be required to be renewed. The certifee must meet the requirements of the mandatory continuing education policy in order to have their certification eligible for renewal. Policy on mandatory continuing educationIn every five-year period all certified Prosthetists and/or Orthotists must complete a minimum of 30 hours of qualifying credits in order to have their certificate renewed. Members who are dual certifees will be required to complete 60 hours of credits over a five-year period. Those credits can be earned in either discipline. If the certifee meets the requirements of the mandatory continuing education policy, the certification will be renewed. If the certifee does not meet the requirements, their certificate will not be renewed and all privileges will be revoked. However, a time period of two years to rewrite the certification exam will be granted, and upon passing the exam the certificate will be renewed and privileges re-instated. Mandatory continuing education credits must be reported yearly by each member. Any certifee can apply directly to the chairman of the education committee for a ruling on the eligibility of an activity that is not specifically covered with the corporation yearly registry.
